How To Eat Healthy Food
With the increase in cancers and other types of illness, there is a growing desire among the populace to learn how to eat healthy food.
It is really rather sad that a question exists as to what is healthy food and what is not. At one time in humanity's history there was no other kind of food, but that which was produced from agricultural farming or animals fed from nature's bounty.
There once were no such things as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and preservatives. No-one had heard of refined, processed, homogenized or pasteurized foods. Today, it is hard to find a food that has not been changed, tampered with or damaged by processing.
Regardless of the challenges, learning how to make healthy food choices is worth them all. To put it simply, eating healthy foods can determine the quality of our lives and our lifespan.
There is one basic principle that governs all truly healthy eating: Do not eat food that has been fundamentally changed from the form in which it was grown or came in nature.
In other words, grinding whole grain as it comes from the field and then baking it into bread, does not change the healthy chemistry of the grain. However, grain that has been degerminated, bleached, taken through several refining processes and finally had synthetic vitamins and preservatives added before it is made into bread -- this is no longer a heathy or nutritious grain. In fact it has become a contributor to disease.
If you want to know how to eat healthy food or make healthy eating choices, follow these rules:
1. Do not eat anything white. Very few foods are white in their natural form. (Milk may be the exception.) If it is white, the refining process has damaged it so that it will no longer be nourishing to your health, but can instead cause illness.
White sugar (sucrose, fructose, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, beet sugar, brown sugar, etc.) Acceptable sweeteners would be fruit juice, raw honey, agave syrup, barley malt, brown rice, maple syrup and a truly raw, unrefined, dark brown, organic sugar.
White flour (unbleached wheat flour, flour, wheat flour, etc.) In order to have any nutritional value grains must say 100% whole wheat or whole grain.
White salt (table salt, white sea salt, pure sodium, etc.) Salt in it's natural form that contains the necessary minerals for your body to utilize the sodium in a beneficial manner will never be white. It may be grey or tan, or have a reddish cast which denotes naturally occurring minerals. Table salt has been through a chemical wash, leaving nothing but pure sodium which can contribute to various illnesses.
All milk that has been pasteurized, homogenized and is not organic. The only milk that has the potential to build health is raw milk. It contains beneficial bacteria for intestinal health and enzymes that help heal your body in many ways. Choosing organic milk means you are drinking milk from cows that have not been fed antibiotics, hormones or pesticide laden grains. If you cannot find raw or organic milk, give rice, almond or soy milk a try.
2. Do not eat foods which contain ingredients you are not educated about. Most foods on the grocery shelves contain preservatives that can do as much damage as the spoilage they prevent. If you don't know for sure what it is, do not eat it.
3. Cut out caffeine in any form other than raw unprocessed states such as raw chocolate, white tea or green tea.
Again, learning how to eat healthy food, may go counter to the rest of our culture's eating habits and be a bit of a challenge....but it may also save your life.
