How To Control Garden Slugs In Your Organic Garden
Slugs and snails are pests that can be difficult and aggravating to deal with in your garden. There are several methods on how to control garden slugs or even preventing them from getting into your garden in the first place. You first have to decide if you would like to repeal the slugs, or kill them.
If you do not want to harm the slugs follow these tips:
1. Do not use wood as borders for your garden.
2. Put your plants that slugs are attracted to in raised beds surrounded by brick.
3. Place some type of plastic border around your plants for a barrier. You can do this simply by cutting the bottom out of a plastic cup and putting it around the bottom of the plant.
4. Place sand, wood ash, coffee grounds, or eggshells around the border of your garden. These items repel slugs.
5. Keep the area well tilled, this prevents the slugs from getting traction to slither across the ground. 6. Frogs and toads keep slugs away.
7. Gently collect the slugs and relocate them to another damp location.
8. Plant strong smelling plants, such as herbs, to keep slugs away. Some strong scented herbs include mint, sage, lavender, and garlic.
9. Groundhogs are also good at keeping slugs away, but they could eat your plants.
10. Keep your beds nicely groomed and weeded so the slugs do not have a place to hide.
Here are some tips you can use that will kill the garden slugs:
1. Place epson salts around your beds, this will cause the slugs to dry up.
2. Set a shallow container out with beer in it. The slugs will slither into the container and drown.
3. Go out to your garden at night and collect the slugs you can find and destroy them in whatever way your feel comfortable.
4. Use organic pellets for slugs.
