Beautiful Floribunda Rose

Floribunda Roses At WhiteHouse

This article on diy tips for gardening  (Do it Yourself) will show you how to grow the Floribunda type rose. The Floribunda just might be the most beautiful and colorful of all the modern day roses.

The word "Floribunda" means "an abundance of flowers". And this rose is well known for producing a lot of blooms over a long period of time. Its a cross between a hybrid tea rose and a Polyantha. And the result is a very vigorous and hardy plant with spectacular flowers.

Planting Suggestions:

Pick a sunny spot for planting the flowers that gets at least 5 or 6 hours of sun/day in the spring and summer, then start preparing the soil. Blend some compost or other type of organic material into the soil. Dig a hole for each plant about 10 inches deep and make sure its wide enough so the roots are not cramped. Or in other words wide enough so the roots can be spread out without being bunched up. Allow about 2 feet between plants.

Mix some compost with the soil you dug from the hole and add a few inches back into the planting hole. This will give the roots some loose soil to grow in as opposed to hard clay for example. Measure how deep the rose is planted in the container and try to plant it about the same depth by adjusting the hole depth by adding or removing soil. The crown or bud union should be about an inch under the soil. Different people will have different suggestions on the planting depth but this is a good rule of thumb to follow.

Adding a small handful of bone meal to each hole is a good idea. Bone meal is a good organic source of phosphorous that the roots need to grow. Remove the plant from the container and place it in the hole to see if the hole is the correct depth. When the hole depth is right, then pack the soil with your hands firmly around the roots so as not to leave any spaces. Then fill the hole up, tamping the soil down as you go. Water the plants each day for several days until they get established, then water as needed.

Pruning And Care:

Remove any dead canes from the plants in late winter. Keep the bed area clean of debris as much as possible. When it starts warming up in spring add some more organic matter to the soil and some type of organic fertilizer. Never use a synthetic fertilizer on your roses for at least the first year after planting.

Organic Fertilizers:

Organic fertilizers are derived from dead plant and animal products and will greatly help to build up the soil. Adding compost as mentioned earlier is about the best single thing you can do to enrich your soil.

Some common organic fertilizers are Alfalfa Meal, Bone Meal, Blood Meal, Cottonseed Meal, Fish Emulsion, Kelp Meal, Soybean Meal, And (cow, horse, or chicken manure)...be sure each type manure is composted before putting it around your plants as uncomposted manure can burn them.
